BelligerenceReader comment on item: If Not [Arab-Israeli] Peace Now, What? Submitted by Vinod Gulati (India), Jul 27, 2008 at 02:58 Peace is only possible, contrary to what Dr.Pipes suggests, when both sides are not constantly trying to achieve a "position of strength" before negotiations begin. When one side is waiting to gain the upper hand and make the opponent "feel" defeated before starting a dialogue, it really is trying to strongarm the subdued side to accept disadvantages it would not have normally accepted, like illegal settlements, illegal occupation, the final status of Jerusalem and so on. So I feel not only should Iran be forced to disarm but Israel also should be forced to destry her WMD's (nuclear, biological and chemical). The whole Middle-East should be a WMD free zone. And if Israel feels insecure by her neighbours, well then let me assure you that her neighbours feel equally threatened by her. Contrary to popular media hype, Iran's neighbour are not "threatened" by Iran's capabilities they worry about the trigger-happy Israelis. Once mutual disarmament occurs you will see a marked difference in the belligerent Israeli attitude, all UN Resolutions pertaining to them will be implemented (everone knows how important implementing UN Resolutions are to the USA and Europe) and Peace will finally come with everyone living happliy everafter.
