A good, interesting, logical, well presented, reasoned insight into Islamism. The notion that "Islamism" is the current iteration of the succession of totalitarian ideologies. All of which is true, and "Islamism" needs to be treated as distinct and separate from Isalm. This may be slicing too thin. Islamism would not exist without Islam, and vice versa. The propagation of Islam thru aggression and violence is the organic method of expansion for the belief system. Is it not possible that Mohammedism, which is a much more useful term since it includes all forms of "Islam", is fundamentally incompatable with the technologically advanced, secular, democratic, modern republic. Individual preferences notwithstanding, can we afford to accomodate those who embrace Mohammed's ideology any more than Marx or Hitler? There is no question people may pray 5 or 20 times a day, but must schools, employers, government accomodate the practice?
Special diet, places to pray, time to pray, special clothes, the unequivical demand for "Respect" simply because of ones belief, is not the American (or western)tradition. I thank Dr Pipes for his visit to DC and his nearly heroic efforts to help us Americans understand this threat.
