Dear Profesor Pipes: There will always be an uneasy ambiguity about the necessity of going to war against Iraq so long as weapons of mass destruction are not found. Back in January or February I remember seeing news accounts that Iraq had shipped his wmd to Iran -- I'm sure for billions -- in 90 plus coffins presented as the return of Iranian remains from the Iraq/Iran war of the eighties. Some of these, in turn, via Syria, ended up in the hands of the Hezbollah in Lebanon.
This would explain the absence of finding any significant amounts of wmd in Iraq and thus take away some of the thunder of those who say that our war gainst Irag was not necessary. ((Although, indeed, it would point to the fact that we waited too long to lauch our attack.)) You have research tools avaiable to you that most do not have. Why don't you pursue this possibility.
