If you have done any sort of research into Islam JIHAD means struggle. A greater Jihad is one of which you have inside your self, a emotional one. A lesser Jihad describes war, taking up of arms is allowed if there can be no peaceful alternative and is very rare. Muslim extremists who suicide bomb in the name of Allah cannot reflect the whole of the Islamic community.
