Great article and commentary. I read Kagan's synopsis and agree with his broad sweep analysis. Unfortunately, the state of affairs between Americans and Europeans parallels the tension and differences between Republican and Democrat in this country. Wide gulfs exist and little reasonable discourse is made. One important consideration would be for citizens to have a more active informed viewpoints instead of the benign neglect and self absorbtion that seem to predominate on both sides of the Atlantic.
