claims that US "deserved what they got" on 9/11

Comment on the above quote:

"I have never, ever once heard anyone with half a brain and sense of decency claim that the US "deserved what they got" on 9/11."

I am an American student at a European university and I hear my fellow students claiming that all the time. If I were to do a general survey, I believe that it would be the opinion of approximately 20% of the student body.

Additionally, a local journal reported from a survey that not only does the majority of the population in this region feel negatively about the US (and I can understand feeling negatively about the country, from the viewpoint of policy), but the majority of students feel negatively about the US people.

I will not be cutting my stay here short, but I get really frustrated because I feel that people shut themselves off from me. On the other hand, it's a great learning experience.
