This story makes no sense. What am I missing?
Reader comment on item: Middle Eastern Political Candor

Submitted by Steve Klein (United States), Apr 15, 2008 at 10:03

Prince Hassan bin Talal says Arab regimes friendly to Washington (e.g., those in Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia) are lying when they claim that Tehran is working through Hamas. Isn't Tehran funding Hamas? Caroline Glick and others report Hamas is an Iranian proxy. So is Hezbollah. No? What is the point of this piece? Talal says, these Arab governments, he argued, are pushing this story to advance their own interests. What interests? Dr. Pipes does not say. Or does he?

Daniel Pipes replies:

My point was not to get into the particulars of Tehran and Hamas but Hassan's brutally critical statement about "we [Middle Easterners] are professional liars."
