If Pipes found Hourani's Arab history more apology than fidelity I wonder how he would react to the endless reams of Stalinist apologia suggesting that the Muslim conquests of India created a golden age? Of course his government agrees with this extraordinary depiction because the Library of Congress has recently appointed one of these apologists of Islamic conquest to its most distinguished chair.
