I also oppose US tariffs on Brazilian ethanol, but my reason is totally cynical. If Brazil is stupid enough to subsidize the production of ethanol and then sell it abroad, I'm all for taking advantage of it.

Perhaps I was mistaken, but I thought you were calling for US government subsidies and regulations to encourage ethanol. Such subsidies and regulations will necessarily end up being manipulated to help special interest groups.

Government should get out of energy policy and even energy research. There is plenty of incentive for the private sector to invest money in energy.
