There Already is a Democracy in the Middle East!Reader comment on item: Bush the radical Submitted by Avraham (United States), Nov 12, 2003 at 14:44 Dr. Pipes, this is a very insightful and concise presentation of changes and developments in President Bush's policy towards the Islamic countries' leadership. The only thing that I would add is the oft-neglected fact that there already is a democracy in the Middle East: Israel (Turkey is also somewhat democratic). Whether it is democracy or a return to the tolerance (dhimmitude) of traditional Islamic government (with a modern twist), almost anything that increases socioeconomic self-dependence and political health in the Muslim world would be a most welcome change for us all, both Muslim and non-Muslim.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
