Interesting comparative researchReader comment on item: The Middle East's Tribal Affliction Submitted by Elad Yoran (United States), Jan 25, 2008 at 12:01 Daniel, thank you for this piece. Salzman's books seems to be an interesting read worthy of adding to the list. Based on your piece, it strikes me that Salzman is making the sister (inverse) argument to the one Victor Davis Hanson makes in his research. Whereas VDH argues that it is the West's culture that leads to its superior results in conflict (among other things), Salzman looks at the flip side of the coin and examines a society that has its development retarded because of its culture. It would be interesting to do a more in depth comparison across both of their bodies of research. - Elad Yoran (http://thebroaderview.blogspot.com/) Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
