the real reason a Palestinian state is NOT what the Palestinians want

There may have been a time when a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza was a good idea, however the Israelis themselves, with their policy of settling "Judea and Samaria" have made this essentially impossible. The Palestinians realize by example (read Lebanon and now Iraq) that becoming part of a secular (non Islamic) Israel is in their best interest, as in this case they will achieve majority status and will eventually depose from power the Israeli political system, establishing then their own Islamic majority in the Knesset.

In essence, a take over of Israel, a conversion to a Palestinian state, from within. Historically this could have been predicted as Arafat never wanted to reach a negotiated peace with Ehud Barak, and neither has the present Palestinian entity.

Israel will be surrounded from within and will suffer the same fate as Lebanon. I would hope not ,but I do not see a way out, and this mechanism is already in movement.
