Seamus, interesting perspective that you communicate.

I, as you see, occupy a different perspective. I have a different interpretation of the Pentateuch, for very early on the need of a rescuer is evident. No less than the supernatural can accomplish this to give us an alternative to the brokenness that surrounds us. Plus, I submit, the leading contributor to the current brokenness can be traced back to the liberties taken with Jewish liturgies which were used to justify the marauders who stormed out of the Arabian Peninsula 14 centuries ago.

Something happened to the DNA of each descendant of Adam and Eve that carries on the sequence of cause and effect which came about by the first doubts in the Garden of Eden. I agree that Jesus came to teach us how to live, and the way to live is quite different than the brokenness which is so plentiful. But he also came to do more than teach: he came so that we might have life and have it more abundantly. So, I still submit Seamus that the priesthood is necessary.

If not in the old role of being an intermediary between the supernatural and mankind, then empowering humankind to be granted access to the highest throne room of the one referred to as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I, for one, am thankful for Abram's going along with "Lekh Lekha", for that opened the gates to a new world, as noted by Thomas Cahill in "The Gift of the Jews".

For, one review of that book which appeared about 10 years ago in Knight-Ridder Newspapers shows how Jewish the world is, and frankly the world is better off for it. So, how do the followers of the "Way" fit in into all of this? By making it possible for the eternal to take on the form of man, which does not fit into orthodox Judaism.
