Soviet Russia was an explicitly atheistic state, and the reason for that was their fear of organised religion over the sphere of influence ( among other things).. They simply replaced religion for the Communist Party. As for the "ideal " system I would be in favour of a total seperation of State and economics; a system where you get to keep all the money you earn, and pay for everything that you want . Anything wrong with that?
