Dear Mr. Pipes,
Ariel Sharon was in my opinion one of the great Jewish heros of the past sixty years. He was advised at one point by another of my greatest Jewish heros, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, not to go into politics. I was not privvy to the Rebbe's thinking, but certainly it's historically proven that being a General is one thing and going into politics....well, one usually gets 'political'.
It was clear before We were thrown off our land and it's even more clear today that giving up our Land for peace, economics, demographics or any other 'political' resason is disastorous. One needs only to look into a local schoolyard and see if there's a bully on earth who stops bullying if one gives the bully their lunch.
On the contrary. Is Mr. Sharon's medical condition Divine Retribution? I certainly can't say. I do find your statistics interesting as well as a confirmation. The idea of an Israeli not being tied to Judaism (dare I say 'Religion') is akin to an apple saying they have no connection to the earth. I will also say this: Had Mr. Sharon stayed on in a Military capacity, I'm quite sure the non-strategy of the last Lebanese war would've been completely different and Hizbollah wiped out. I pray for Mr. Sharon, his family, and for you Mr. Pipes to continue the great work!
Sincerely Moshe Mones
