Reader comment on item: [The American Muslim Council:] 'Mainstream' Muslims?

Submitted by josie (United States), Dec 28, 2007 at 16:26

I am a Christian married to a Muslim. And regardless to what people may believe or what people are told to believe, he does not beat me or keep me locked up.

Here's a thought. Maybe those so called "muslim terrorist" aren't true muslims. Just like a christian who kills is not a true christian. Yeah there are bad people out there. And there are bad muslims. {and bad athiests and a christians and so on}

It's not like I'm telling you this from a book. I have first hand experience. Like I said my husband is muslim so this is kinda personal. I have been to mosques. And guess what? I never heard anyone talk of Al-qaida or how to "get the infadils"

Oh and there is a difference between Islam and culture. Even though a country might be an Islamic country some of their practices might be because of cultural reasons.

About women is islam. I don't know any muslim men with more than one wife. My husband knows only one. I don't get it. That doesn't make it wrong. It just makes it different.

Let's not forget that Jacob had two wives {Leah and Rachel} and King David also had more than one wife. How is that any different? I know somebody will try to say something about this but, I hope you get my point. In all my marriage I only have one example of the treatment of women. In mosques when people pray women are men are seperate. I thought I would have a hard time with that. But guess what? I really didn't. Yes I do pray at mosque. I can pray anywhere. It is important to my husband so I think I should be there and see what goes on. I take him to church too. He thinks its interesting. He likes learning more about christianity as I do learning about islam.

Nothing can be done about hate. Americans will always pick someone to hate or mistrust. Remember the internment camps of WW2? This has been said many times. It is common to hate or fear what you do not understand.
