The Theory of the Second Best

Everyone with any judgement knows that the prospects for peace in the Middle East are precisely zero. Over the past five decades a huge amount of time and energy (from talented and well intentioned people) has been extended in search of a solution that does not exist.

It is time to stop this nonsense and approach the problem differently: Given that the Middle East will be in state of conflict for the next thousand years, that indeed, peace is unavailable - What is the next best alternative? Is there a second best strategy that might actually yield some return on our efforts? We should give up on effacing the oldest human conflict on the face of the earth.
