There are two major mistakes people, including Bush and Rice, make when attempting to "solve" the problems of the Mid East.

First, they don't know who the enemy is. Second, they wouldn't know how to defeat it even if they did know.

We are at war with Islam. True, there are many good people who are Muslims, but they are enslaved to the demands of a harsh and soul destroying faith. As Winston Churchill rightly said, "No stronger retrograde force exists in the world."

As long as their is hate and violence in Islam, Islam will have practicioners who hate and destroy. As long as Bush, and co., mistakenly call it a "religion of peace" there will be no peace. To beat it's fanatical adherents and somehow not spare as many of those who are victims of it by birth, they would have to understand it intimately, and they do not. Thjey don't even think they have to.

Many of us often talk about Islam's affinity fo Nazi ideas. Mellanie Phillips has quite a few posts on that, like this one, which cites this piece by Matthias Kuentzel that is very informative. But that by no means cuts to the heart of the potential for evil that is inherent in Islam. Identifying their affinity to Naziism doesn't mean they are Nazis. They are far worse. It's just that because of their association with it, support of it, and practice of many of it's methods that we use that to alert people to the danger,.

Just as the Nazis were nurtured by our neglect of that threat, so are the Islamists. And if we don't deal with it now, we will be force to later at much greater expense,. Utill they are, as Dr. Pipes has said, completely defeated, they will present a threat to civilization, as they have done now for nearly 14 centuries. I would much prefer that to be BEFORE they become an even greater threat.

\Also, I'm not sure what will constitute, "completely defeated" because the US led coalition conquered Saddam in the first Gulf War, and when we let him keep his country with any further retribution than that defeat, he remarked, "So, we won."

It is good to have a trusting nature, but when you have been betrayed over, and over and over again, it's time to realize, "This one cannot be trusted." and behave accordingly.
