RESPONSE TO MR. FOUSE
Reader comment on item: Islamic Law in the United States?
in response to reader comment: Heretics

Mr. Fouse,

if you are trying to convince me that Islam is the most violent of the three Abrahamic religions at this point in time, you are, as they say, 'preaching to the choir.' Without a doubt Islam is the most militant of all organized religions, and, sad to say, the fastest growing cult of lunacy in today's modern world as well. Christianity has fortunately morphed into a far more benign form of its former self.

However, whereas today's Muslims refer to non-believers as "infidels" and aspire toward their destruction, Christians historically had another term for non-believers: they called them "heretics" and their favorite method of disposing of them was to tie them to a tree, a post or some other convenient stationary object and then set them on fire.

I get the uncomfortable feeling that many Christians in today's world believe this would be an appropriate fate for 21st Century Atheists as well. All three of these monotheistic religions are related, in that Christianity was essentially a plagiarized version of Judaism and Islam is a plagiarized version of Christianity. They are all equally anti-life and anti-human in their philosophies, preaching that this life here on Earth is merely a preparation for death [and some glorious "afterlife"] and that the human species is fundamentally base and immoral with no innate sense of right or wrong. Both precepts are utterly wrong and utterly absurd.

And, yes, I am thankful that I live in the only nation on the planet with a Constitution that demands the separation of church and state, yet I find it extremely disturbing that the same populace that prides itself on its love of liberty so openly embraces the stultifying enslavement of its vile, malignant, sadistic, narcissistic imaginary Christian deity that demands servile acceptance of the notion of "unworthiness" and sin.

There is nothing positive taught by religion than cannot also be taught by simple human decency, but to convince an essentially good man to perform an act of pure evil it takes the blind faith of religion to corrupt his innate human values. That is how suicide bombers are created and that is how those conducting the Spanish Inquisition validated their own actions as well. Religious persecution is a time-honored tradition.

Historians will tell you that there was a time in ancient Rome when you could be killed for being a Christian; a century later, with Rome now a Christian state, you could be killed for not being one. And in virtually every European or American war fought in the past ten centuries both sides firmly believed that they had "God on their side," as was evidenced in the etching on German Army belt buckles during World War I that read "Got Mitt Uns"----God with us.
