WE SHOULD ALL BE HERETICS
Reader comment on item: Islamic Law in the United States?
in response to reader comment: Muslim Heretics

Religion is at best an anachronistic holdover of our species' earliest days when we lived as primitive cave dwellers searching for mystical and magical answers to explain the world around us. At worst it morphs into a malignant mental illness that commands those it infects to commit hideous atrocities in the name of some imaginary deity.

Islam may be the most vicious example of religion run amuck, but Christianity itself has a long history of persecution and violence. And just consider the fundamental absurdity of Christian belief to begin with. The Christian God supposedly reigns supreme, is all-powerful, benevolent, watches over us night and day and created us in his own image; however, he deliberately created us flawed so that we could not resist temptation, then deliberately put temptation in our way while knowing full well the temptation could not be resisted (he's "all knowing" remember?) and tells us we're all sinners, then sends his "only begotten son" down to Earth for a brutal sadistic ritual human sacrifice in order to "die for our sins," and then tells us that we're still all sinners anyway from the moment we're born and that if we don't grovel before him constantly we'll be sent to a place called Hell upon our death where we will rot and suffer and burn for all eternity. Wow, what a guy, huh?

First he sets us up in a clear case of entrapment, then kills his own kid, then reneges on a promise and tells us we're doomed forever. And why exactly does this deity do all this? Brace yourself for the answer. Because "he loves us," that's why. Yeah, it doesn't make any sense to me either.
