The media, responding to our culture at large, do not want any rough edges. They also do not - emphatically, do not - want any thoughts to be injected into any debate. A debate is a staged event, like a reality show. If you are left or right or Islamo-fascist or communist, it does not matter, so long as you have an entertaining or riducule-able media personality (the former is preferred, but some people can make a minor career of the latter). What you stand for does not matter. It is how you appear. It is ratings. It's just a newer version of the old saying, "'Live fast, die young and leave a good looking corpse." What happens in between is not important.
