Reader comment on item: Giuliani's Fresh Start
in response to reader comment: social policy + new laws = squeaky wheels get the money

Well, as far as stability goes, I don't mind lower taxes for people with kids, or the mortgage deduction. I'd of course be happier with a flat tax, but with stability comes public health and wellbeing.

No, you haven't offended me. I think it's government's duty to stay out of special favoritism as much as it is to stay away from discrimination. Where that line is drawn between favoritism and ill-treatment is subject to debate. Personally, I think gay marriage is a non-threatening and healthy idea... others disagree. But if it were up to me, Muslim public school kids would pray the same place every other kid in public school prays, at home or silently before their math tests.

The public school's not religious enough for ya? Fine. There's a Madrassa down the street you can pay for while you also pay your school taxes. Or I'm all for vouchers...

I think libertarianism has changed a bit... personal freedom is crucial, but the folks at CATO and Reason have amended their complete freedom to encompass both responsibility and prevention of the "Commons Tragedy" when complete libertarianism reigns.

Count me as a fervent and proud Giuliani supporter. Being a New Yorker, I know firsthand how well he managed this city. And he did so evenhandedly.

Now that Pipes is aboard the train, I'm more thrilled than ever. I don't always agree with Dan Pipes, but he's someone I'd want to hear out every time.
