The voice of reason in Muslim Britain

Reader comment on item: Downing Street's Favorite – The Muslim Council of Britain

Submitted by michael shepherd (United Kingdom), Oct 14, 2007 at 11:41

As an ex-journalist and philosopher, seeking always harmony in society, I would like to ask you to state on this site, those Muslim voices in Great Britain whom you admire as reasonable men open to serious discussion...

Otherwise, the same questionable public voices will be asked for comment, and heard in the media, and the public will grow increasingly cynical...

I am trying at the moment to promote the idea, in the wake of that magnificent open letter to Christian divines by 38 Muslim divines, that on a specified 'Day of At-one-ment' , celebrated Christian clerics preach from a text in the Qur'an, and celebrated Imams from a text in the New Testament... such texts are gloriously spread out in that open letter...

In my view, such a simple act would be a revelation and mind-opener to those who seem to live their life in division rather than in unity... an act more than symbolic. Even if it never actually happened, talking about the possibility would bring nothing but good..

Am I talking with my head in the clouds ? I think not. Rather, with my feet on the ground and my eyes on the high hills of spirituality under heaven...
