Reader comment on item: Will Annapolis Renew the "Peace Process"?

Submitted by Ken Besig (Israel), Oct 10, 2007 at 14:55

By now every informed, knowledgeable, and educated person knows that no Israeli/Palestinian peace process or conference will ever achieve anything positive, even a reduction in hostilities, so long as the Palestinian side sees and manipulates the "peace process" as simply another means for destroying the Jewish State of Israel and the genocide or expulsion of all Israel's Jewish citizens.

Thus I have to believe that since the American Secretary of State, Ms. Condoleeza Rice, is even more informed, knowledgeable, and educated about this conflict than the average person, it makes me wonder if maybe Ms. Rice and the State Department are expecting failure, perhaps even want the conference to fail, or for some reason known only to them, do not even care if the conference fails.

And when this particular conference fails, as it will, so what? It will just join the myriad other peace conferences and plans which also failed. Indeed, I would like one day for someone with a lot of time on their hands to try to count up the number of failed Israeli/Palestinian peace conferences, peace processes, peace tracks, cease fires, special peace envoys, and all the other trappings of Middle East Peace there have been tried and failed. I would expect the number to be impressive including everything from the various UN plans to the Rogers Peace Plan to the various international conferences, to the Oslo Accords, to the Quartet, to General Zinni, to General Dayton, and so on.

And as far as possible negative consequences from this conference, let's get real, we are all experienced grown ups here, and as they say, been there and done that, for about the ten thousandth time!
