No reform MuslimsReader comment on item: Debate: Islam and Democracy Submitted by Hank Roth (United States), Aug 21, 2003 at 22:55 Islam skipped the Enlightenment and there are no reform or conservative Muslims. There is no dissent. Criticize Islam, like Salmon Rushdie, and you end up with a death penalty warrant on your head. There is only one way to observe Islam whether Sunni, Shiite or Wahhabee and that is determined by the clerics. Saddam Hussein was a secularist but we did a number on Iraq and opened that Pandora's box up for radical Islamists. Jordan claims to be secularist but they can't get rid of the law for honor killings so how secular is that? They stone women and only recently stopped the practice of slavery (or did they?) Israel just lives in a very bad neighborhood.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
