Doctors Jihad in England

Reader comment on item: Islamists in the Hospital Ward

Submitted by Archimedes2 (Canada), Aug 5, 2007 at 19:17

I'm a little surprised that Daniel Pipes has not added an update to this page covering the group of doctors and their failed attacks last Month in England. Although not strictly speaking an illustration of the incompatibility of islamic worldview and western medical practise it is a fine demonstration of the significant difference between attitudes toward medicine, and medical practise, in the west and that in Islam.

Most westerners were deeply shocked that doctors would be so deeply involved in such an inhumane plan, regardless of the motivating ideology. But I don't think it comes as a great suprise to any understanding the Islamist mindset. Indeed, it appears that western attitudes toward medical practitioners were deliberately manipulated in order to give cover to these plots.

A frustrating element to the jihadists is that they seem quite comfortable using the highest and most laudable aspects of western culture and civilizations, even elements that dream unrealistically about peace, compassion and goodwill, as launching points for attacks against us. It is part and parcel of the way the apologists have moved into the mainstream liberal activist society and adopted the rhetoric of human rights and protection for victims to seek political advantage. And, to a large extent, this tactic works because we believe so wholeheartedly in the sanctity of certain institutions whose responsibility is to do good and not harm in our world.

While these institutions may not always achieve these lofty aspirations -- indeed in some cases fail miserably -- our society by and large expects those working in these fields to carry out their work out of good will and without regard to outside political or religious interests.
