Reader comment on item: Suicide Reversal? Polling the Muslim world

Submitted by Henrik Ræder Clausen (Denmark), Jul 30, 2007 at 15:12

Basically, decreasing support for suicide bombing is a Good Thing. It is the support, both moral and practical, that makes these bombings possible, and they are without equal in evil intent and execution. It has become obvious though, that the fear effect is of less value than the tainting of Islam (and religion in general) this causes. Extending this tainting to Jihad rebel movements in general might be next.

This is a workable way to win the War on Terror. Much better than invading Iraq, just for the heck of it...

However, suicide bombing and terrorism are only the most gross expression of the intimidation tactics used by Islamists to impose Islamization of society. The still brutal way of "Imams checking youth crime" or "If you don't allow prayer at work, we can't answer for the consequences", or the "If you complain about this, you're an Islamophobic racist!" are still very much at work.

These subtle tactics are very important to identify and counter. Lots of fears of being labeled 'Islamophobe' or whatever to be overcome, lots of small battles to win.

Not to mention the dangerous situation around Israel, of course. But that sort of has a life of its own...
