Eric Foner's assertion that a preemptive war against Iraq would take us back "to the notion of the rule of the jungle" seems quite on the mark given the events over the past 5 years. Pipes and others here are extremely off the mark to call Foner "unpatriotic" or "hateful of America." Read Foner's books. Foner is no partisan hack. He's someone who has studied and thought deeply about the American experience and is passionate about America's ongoing internal struggles to secure and expand universal freedoms.
