Islam vs. Moderation
Reader comment on item: Turkey's Radical Turn?

Submitted by Arlinda DeAngelis (United States), Aug 5, 2003 at 16:09

Islam is the antithesis of moderation and fairness. According to the Qu'ran there can be no other authority than the mullah, ayatolah or whoever is in power. Personal power is turned over to a higher authority. The higher authority maintains absolute power which, of course, corrupts absolutely.

It is the corruption engendered and empowered by Islamic belief that corrupts everything in its society including the military. Without the possibility of reform or democracy, Islam will always return to its Sixth Century belief system.

The Western democracies need to re-evaluate their romantic notion of this desert religion with its violent and autocratic past. The United States in particular with its guarantees of freedom of religion must look at this belief system as antithetical to its core beliefs and remove the privilege of tax-exemption from their charities, schools and organizations that preach hate, intolerance and terrorism as acceptable and preferable to inclusion, freedom and peace.

The "religion of peace" is as frightening as Nazism, Communism and Slavery as an acceptable social system.
